Hello! My name is Zelda and I love living in Hampton on the river. I want to have an opportunity to share with you experiences of the beautiful Kennebecasis River. There never is a bad day on the river. Relaxing on the slow moving river is the best part of my day. I enjoy the thrill of catching any fish, but the big ones are the most exciting. I encourage you to relax with the breathtaking view of our countryside on the beautiful, slow moving “Kennebecasis”. The name comes from the Maliseet Indian word “Kennebec” meaning “snake” and “sis” meaning “little”. The river meanders snake like from the narrow channel at Perry Point to its origins near Fundy National Park.
June 29, 2008 A Birthday trip down river. Light showers and calm water. The perfect receipie for fishing and a birthday adventures. Happy Birthday Beverly!! June 28, 2008 The weather seems to be ever changing. We ended up with light winds and calm waters. It is always a good day on the river. June 26, 2008 A overcast day with scattered showers forecaste for today. That didn't stop this fishing party from enjoying the river and catching a few fish and for young man his first fish. The thrill is in his expression. When the wind calms down the river becomes a mirror image as you can see in these pictures. June 24, 2008 What a beautiful afternoon for a boat trip. I am able to run to Darlings Island and back to Lighthouse Park on electric with a little time for fishing too. Note to myself (make sure you bring good batteries for the camera) Sorry no pictures of this afternoon. I've been promised 4 pictures and will add them when I receive them. Check out our Canada Special found on the bottom of the home page. Thanks for the photo's June 23, 2008 Cloudy with showers was the forcast for today, but that didn't stop the crew from Natural Resources. Some can boast about catching the biggest (a 16in small mouth bass) and others were just happy they caught a fish. June 22, 2008 A family birthday trip. It was overcast and foggy when we departed at 9am, but the sun shone for us before too long. June 21, 2008 to all of you who braved the cool morning and those who enjoyed the sunshine in the afternoon. Thanks for a wonderful day on the river and putting up with my learning the electric motors. We raised $132.52 for our community food bank here in Hampton and a deck box full of food. It's nice to see the community reaching out. To my sunset cruise, you made it feel so natural and fun. I totally got the electrics down for them Skipper Zelda June 17, 2008 I have been busy with preparations for this Saturdays festivities at Lighthouse Park. Tours start at 10:00am and run until 4:30pm as close to the ½ hour as possible. Come down and enjoy a ride at a cost to you of a monetary donation or non-perishable donation to the Hampton Food Bank. A bin will be located at the rear of the building by Osprey Adventures June 10, 2008 The boat that still needs a name (see name the boat contest) had a lovely couple from Kentucky onboad tonight a birthday day present for their father. Lots of fun and laughs, thanks for a wonderful trip. Skipper Zelda. June 8, 2008 Another beautiful day to be on the river. The afternoon group was sure to catch a perch or two. It was a little harder for the evening trip. June 6, 2008 I was envious of these two, Dave had a beautiful sunny day to take a client trout fishing on the upper part of the Kennebecasis the limit was caught and a 14 1/2 inch one too. That beat any trout I caught this year. Check out the anglers page for a picture. June 2, 2008. Well it has been quite a week. The Network of Women in Hampton (HamptonNOW) celebrated their third anniversary on Wednesday, by taking a tour to Passakeag creak at Evelyn’s Ox Bow. They saw blue heron, wood ducks, Canada geese, muskrats, mallards and osprey to name a few. A couple of the ladies tried their hand at fishing and we all enjoyed Barb’s coffee and muffins. On Friday we passed our second inspection with the electric batteries aboard and 1700 lbs of weights onboard this gives us a capacity for 11 passengers. We hope to place a third pontoon under the boat to allow for more passengers in the future. Your, Skipper Zelda. May 26, 2008 we enjoyed our second year overnight family canoe trip on this wonderful Kennebecasis. Check out our anglers page to see the trout we caught. You too could have a day trip and catch some trout. May 19, 2008 it was another successful Annual Kennebecasis River Canoe Club Trip. There were prizes for the rooky, hardy boy, most memorable tip and most helpful participant. If you every wanted to relax with friends this trip is a must. Join up to see photos at http://www.akrcct.com/. David and I were unable to make Saturdays trip as we were working on getting the pontoon ready. We joined the group at the covered bridge at Sussex 4 corners. May 12, 2008 It has been a windy weekend with lots of family functions going on. David and I were wed on Friday evening. Zelda McKenzie is my newest title. My in-laws celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday and there was lots of family around for Mothers Day on Sunday. May 8, 2008 there has not been much change in the river. It seemed to be receding yesterday, but holding at its high level today. Dave has been working on the pontoon boat. The seats are in place, motors mounted and the canopy is on. He would like to put it in the river, but unfortunately the river is too high at the moment to accomplish that. May 4, 2008. Ossekeag Creek has crossed the road at the intersection by Spooner Island and the people on Gordon Street are not faring as well as us folks on Randall Rd. May 3, 2008. The river crested in Fredericton yesterday, we should reach our crest here tomorrow. These pictures were taken yesterday at Lighthouse Park. I had to move our things in the back yard again today and hope this is the last time I need to. April 30, 2008. I was disappointed when I checked for that table floating, it was long gone. It could be a couple more days before the river reaches its crest, and this Mallard may not have a rock to perch on. April 29, 2008. CBC radio are warning about high water levels in the Saint John River Valley today. The Kennebecasis runs into this river. They are predicting that it will reach heights of 2005, and possibly as high as the flood of 1973. I for one ventured into the back yard and brought our belongings up above the 2005 level. There was a saw horse or table floating out by our dock just before dusk, I'm hoping it got caught up on the rope attached to the dock. Look at the Bird watchers page for yesterdays picture. April 27, 2008 another beautiful sunny day and trout fishing season. The family enjoyed several hours on the river. The blue heron are hanging out at their usually spot and lots of wood ducks are around too. We didn't manage to hook a trout, but had lots of fun trying. Have a look at the at the bird watchers page for some of the water fowl we saw. April 19, 2008. We went out on the river in our 14' cedar boat last night and this morning, with the children. They were some excited to be on the water. J.D. said:”it’s some nice to be on the water, thanks for taking us out.” We watched in awe the osprey in their nest off Beamer Creek. They seem much larger this year. Sorry I didn’t get pictures, there seems to be something wrong with the binoculars. I did get a couple nice shots with my camera. April 14, 2008. The river has broken its banks during high tide anyway. That means we soon will have our dock out and our personal 14' hand made cedar slat boat in the water. The weather is calling to be sunny and hot for the next couple of weeks. It is good to have lots of nice days to finish construction of the pontoon and a few evenings to relax and enjoy the wild life retuning for mating season. | April 5, 2008. The river is moving swiftly today as it rises from the rain we had last evening. David watched two Blue Heron following each other up the center of the river on their way to their nesting grounds futher up river. | This is one of the first trips with the partially finished boat. | | | I'm enjoying the feel of navigating our waterway. Today March 31, 2008 The river is as low as when it was the lowest last summer. It won't last for long though, our spring freshet will soon be here and they say that this year is to be one of our record highs for water levels. The sound of the Canadian Geese is a sure sign of Spring. The boat is almost ready for launching and is in need of a name. Check out our name the boat contest on the home page. Have a great day.
